#GM food crops may be taking over the U.S.
landscape, but there are nations that aren’t embracing its technology and the numbers are rising.
In the U.S. only California’s counties of “Mendocino, Trinity and Marin” are successfully free of GMO crops.
Some countries ban GM crops but remain selling GM imported foods, other nations ban both GM crops and imports.
The countries banning GM crops are: Japan, New Zealand, Germany, Ireland, Austria, Poland, Russia, France Madeira, Switzerland, Kenya, and Costa Rica (pending).
The variation in each country’s laws with GMOs is complicated when it comes to importing foods.
As of now the nations who ban both crops and the import of GM foods are: Peru, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Greece, Bulgaria, Luxembourg and Saudi Arabia.
Countries cultivating GM crops are:
U.S., Canada, China (the largest producer of GMOs), Sweden, Czech Republic, Finland, Zambia, Spain, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Portugal, Romania, Philippines, South Africa, Britain, Thailand, India, Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Mexico, Australia, Honduras, Egypt, Israel and Iran.
